Dushyant (Shatrughan Sinha) and Shakuntala (Mumtaz) fall in love and get married without any pomp at his father's insistence. Actually, Dushyant's father (Om Shivpuri) had planned to not allow the wedding at all but had agreed at his son's insistence. Now, he does his best to break the marriage and succeeds when a pregnant Shakuntala leaves home. Dushyant becomes a politician and years later, the Chief Minister. Shakuntala gives birth to their son Vikram, who grows up without knowing his father. An adult Vikram (Prasenjit Chatterjee) finds out that his father is the Chief Minister and sets about getting his parents together. Will his grandfather let him?
