Show description
Siddharth (Shiney Ahuja) returns home from America to settle in the village he was born in. Badri (Manoj Joshi) is surprised to see his nephew bring his new wife Avni (Vidya Balan) along with him. It had been originally planned for Siddharth to marry Badri's daughter Radha (Amisha Patel). Siddharth and Avni settle into their family mansion. A few days later, the curious Avni finds a room under lock and wants to explore. Despite being warned of grave dangers, she opens the place and is pleasantly surprised to find it full of clothes and jewellery belonging to a dancer from a few centuries back, Manjulika. But what of the dangers the villagers warned her about?

Director Priyadarshan worked as the second-unit director of the original movie Manichithrathazhu (1993), when he decided to remake the story in Hindi. Akshay Kumar was his first choice to play the male lead role, as was classical dance-trained Malayalam actor Vineet for the role of Shashidhar.
