John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) refuses to accompany his friend Colonel Trautman (Richard Crenna) when he goes on a mission behind Soviet lines in Afghanistan. But when the Colonel gets captured, Rambo goes there unofficially to rescue the man. The indestructible Rambo works his way through bullets and bombs to a camp of Soviet soldiers. Will he be able to get out of the place alive along with the Colonel?
