Show description
The Recruits is an observational documentary series that follows a group of police recruits as they embark on the long and grueling journey towards becoming fully-fledged police officers. With unprecedented access to the New South Wales Police academy and its recruits, the series gives the audience a rare glimpse at what's required of the people we entrust to keep the peace and uphold the law. Filmed over the course of a year, the series follows a group of 12 trainee officers from their initial entrance exam and admission into the police academy at Goulburn, through to their first months on the streets as police officers. From pimply-faced 18-year-olds to married men and women looking for a career change, the group is put through the ringer to test if they have what it takes to be cops. Leaving behind family and friends for six months, each recruit must make personal and financial sacrifices to reach their goal of becoming a police officer. Cameras roll as they tackle their first fitness assessment, learn how to handle and fire their weapon and perform a textbook arrest, and viewers can watch nervously as they hit the streets for their first few months in uniform. Each of the recruits is a vastly different person on graduation day than the way they were on day one at the academy. Can they apply what they learnt at the academy in the real world, particularly when it comes to dealing with dangerous and life-threatening situations?
