A rich widower with a young son marries Lakshmi (Aruna Irani). But she and her greedy brother (Anupam Kher) plot to grab all his money. They keep her young stepson Raju (Anil Kapoor) oppressed as an illiterate peasant. Things were working as per their way. But Raju falls in love with another village girl Saraswati (Madhuri Dixit) who is a literate girl. He marries her without taking permission from his mother and brings her home. Saraswati sizes up the situation and decides to set things right. Here Lakshmi also understands Saraswati’s plans and tries her each way to bring her down. Who wins this race? Watch out….
