Life is topsy-turvy for George Malley (John Travolta), a car mechanic, after he gets knocked down by a mysterious, blinding light on his birthday at a bar and suddenly develops superb mental abilities! He wants to put his new found abilities of the world intelligence to good use for his community, but on the contrary finds people drifting away from him including his near and dear ones. He astounds and surprises everyone around with his incredible powers, with even the government wants to lay its hand on the now known freak. George now comes to realize that his life is changed forever.
