Show description
In the remote Moroccan desert, a rifle shot rings out and sets off a chain of events involving four different families. An innocent accident ends up impacting the lives of a holidaying American couple, two Moroccan herdsmen, a Mexican nanny illegally crossing the border and a surly, deaf Japanese teen. Despite the differences in cultures and sprawling distances, each of these four disparate groups are nevertheless hurtling towards a shared destiny. Exploring themes of loneliness, grief and dislocation, the film connects the four interlocking stories with devastating effect. As well as being nominated for seven Oscars, Babel was crowned Best Film at the Golden Globe Awards. At the Cannes Film Festival, Alejandro González Iñárritu was named Best Director.
